Working Together With Your Spouse

by | Nov 23, 2021

“I could never work with my spouse!’ This is a common response I hear when people learn that my spouse and I work together in our business.

And I COMPLETELY understand why they would say that!

Being married to my business partner has its joys and challenges.

But the principles we promote through coaching and training with our clients are the same principles we live by – and they help us work together well, both in marriage and in business.

These strategies apply not just to marriage and business, but in any setting where you find yourself working alongside others…

Here are some key strategies we’ve used to work together well:

1. We know each other’s STRENGTHS and make efforts to utilize our strengths in ways that compliment each other, making our team stronger.

2. We are clear on what our top, individual VALUES are. Sometimes those values are aligned and are working in harmony. Other times they are in conflict with one another. When the latter happens, we discuss and decide on the best way to address the gap.

3. We give each other permission to hold one another ACCOUNTABLE. We stay open to FEEDBACK – even when it gets sticky and uncomfortable.

4. We DON’T AVOID communication. If conflicts arise, we identify the source and work through it. We don’t let things fester, because we believe that healthy conflict builds relationship.

5. We believe in and practice the COACH APPROACH principles we teach. We make sure we’re putting those tools into practice ourselves first as well as modeling it for our children.

6. In times of stress or when it may take a little longer to work through a conflict, we shift our focus to GRATITUDE, acknowledging what we each bring to the table.

As we are in this season of celebrating what we’re thankful for, and as I reflect on our journey so far, I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to serve our clients alongside each other.

What’s one thing you’re thankful for today?
