What do you do about someone who gets results but RUINS relationships?

It’s a catch-22.

But it doesn’t have to be…

Imagine this. (maybe you won’t have to try too hard…)

–       You’re experiencing conflict and stress with a direct report who is absolutely amazing at what they do. They are smart, capable, hard-working.

–       But they have a strong personality, and it can trigger others around them. They’re like sandpaper to the rest of the team. They’re affecting the harmony of your team. Your team culture is suffering.

–       They get so much done that you don’t want to “upset the apple cart” by confronting them.

–       So you cover for them, work to mitigate the damage, make team culture and harmony less of a priority (after all, the bottom line is what you’re responsible for, first and foremost, right?)

Does all this sound familiar?

This is a common scenario for leaders who have a high value of RELATIONSHIP.

This happened with one of our clients…

The senior leader knew there was a need but wanted a solution that would ultimately BUILD a relationship and not BREAK it.

The leader enrolled herself and one of her direct reports into individual leadership coaching.

After several sessions, the leader shared with me:

“This coaching is working for us – if we had not been in coaching, we would not have responded the way we did [to recent business scenarios and conversations].”

Here are the amazing results they had:

–       They learned more about themselves and their leadership styles.

–       They learned how they were being perceived by others.

–       They learned how to better manage their own triggers and communicate better.

–       The direct report stepped into a higher level of ownership and became more vulnerable and open to the team.

–       The manager stepped into a higher level of courage to share open and honest feedback.

All of which improved communication and productivity.

This isn’t an isolated situation. People deal with these kinds of issues EVERY DAY in the workplace. So, if you find yourself here, you’re not alone.

One of the best ways I’ve found to have this kind of breakthrough that my client did is to enroll in a leadership development program that allows you as a leader to correct these issues yourself and become more effective in your context.

I know I’m biased, but our Leadership BootCamp is truly one of the best options out there for easily accessible leadership transformation.

When you participate, you come into the program with one way of thinking and leave with a COMPLETELY different mindset.
