Since the best leaders are WELL-ROUNDED leaders, consider where you are in each one…
FIRST, there’s the INTELLIGENCE quotient. (IQ)
This is the measure of cognitive intelligence, including abilities such as problem-solving, abstract reasoning, and logical thinking.
SECOND, there’s the EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE quotient. (EQ)
This is the ability to identify, understand, and manage one’s own emotions, as well as to recognize and empathize with the emotions of others. It includes self-awareness, self-regulation, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills.
THIRD, there’s SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE quotient. (SQ)
The ability to understand and navigate social situations and relationships effectively. It includes skills such as communication, influence / persuasion, collaboration, leadership, and conflict resolution.
FOURTH, there’s the ADVERSITY quotient. (AQ)
The ability to persevere and thrive in the face of challenges and adversity. It includes skills such as resilience, adaptability, problem-solving, and risk-taking while also maintaining hope for a positive outcome.
We have added a FIFTH quotient…the Leadership Quotient (LQ)
Leadership quotient is the quantifiable measure of overall leadership effectiveness of a leader or group of leaders. It is the degree to which leaders are showing up as ‘outcome creative’ or ‘problem reactive’ in their leadership tendencies.
So, what does it mean if a leader doesn’t have these characteristics? It simply means there is an OPPORTUNITY…you can LEARN them! You can GROW in them! Or you can surround yourself with people who are stronger in your areas of weakness.
Here’s what these characteristics mean for you as a leader…
Each of these quotients can be important in different ways. IQ can be useful for analytical and strategic thinking, while EQ can help leaders build relationships, motivate their teams, and manage conflict.
SQ is important for leaders to be effective communicators and collaborators, and to build strong teams. AQ is particularly relevant for leaders who must navigate change and uncertainty, as it enables them to remain resilient and adaptable in the face of adversity.
LQ is important to measure the overall impact a leader or group of leaders are having on their team and the overall culture of their organization.
A good leader will practice self-awareness in knowing each quotient and which areas are their strengths so they can leverage them–as well as any that are risk areas so they can mitigate them.
