Making The World A Better Place Begins At Work

by | Nov 3, 2021

According to Gallup’s 2021 State of the Global Workplace Report:

  • 7 out 10 employees are struggling or suffering rather than thriving in their overall lives
  • Global employee engagement has decreased to 20%
  • Low engagement is estimated to cost the global economy $8 trillion annually

Here in the US, the effects of Covid in people’s lives and in the workplace continue to be a challenge.

Currently in the US:

* Engaged employees are 34% of the workforce

The term ‘engaged’ indicates that employees love their jobs and are positively contributing to their organization…essentially making America better each day through their work.

* Disengaged employees are 66%

Approximately 16% of employees are ‘actively disengaged,’ indicating they are miserable in the workplace and often sabotage what most of the engaged employees are attempting to build and accomplish.

Approximately 50% of employees are ‘not engaged’. Meaning, they’re just there. Showing up to work every day and marking time on the clock with no passion or meaningful contribution.

With stats like these, it is apparent that the American leadership philosophies from years gone by no longer work today.

Creating a culture where employees are engaged at work and thriving in their overall lives requires more than just issuing a new ‘policy.’

Gallup found that leaders and managers play a very critical role in increasing employee engagement as well as positively influencing employee wellbeing – they accounted for 70% of the variance in team engagement.

The day-to-day influence and impact a manager or leader has on employee engagement and employee wellbeing cannot be understated. This is why equipping leaders to move from boss to coach is so critical.

Leaders who learn the mindset and skillset of coaching are more effective in having consistent, honest, and meaningful development conversations with their team members.

Because most employees spend more time at work than with their own families, these conversations have a significant and positive impact and ripple effect.

Not only that – but having skilled COACH LEADERS also translates to the bottom line.

Gallup confirmed after surveying over 100,000 business units that the ones with high employee engagement also achieved:
  • higher productivity
  • better safety
  • higher customer loyalty
  • better employee retention
  • higher profitability

Innovative employers are recognizing the need to proactively address employee engagement as well as the overall wellbeing of their employees in order to build a more resilient workforce.
