You need to hire someone ASAP but…you can’t find ANYONE!

Many companies are struggling with this. I’ve also been there.

It can be a challenge to feel overwhelmed with the workload, needing help, not able to find the right person in time.

When we feel under pressure as leaders, we are often tempted to settle—to make a poor hiring decision, just to fill the role and get the much-needed help.

In today’s workforce, there’s more competition. It’s an employees’ market, and leaders are struggling with hiring.

This means that some employers have lowered their standard of who they’re willing to hire. They’re settling for people who don’t align with the culture, aren’t really committed or who may not really want the position.

The pressure of filling a position is REAL! But the COST of bringing in the wrong people is very HIGH.

When you bring in the wrong person—whether they’re not a good fit for the role itself, not good for the culture, etc.—it affects everyone!

And it’s costing the companies a lot more than just modifying or distributing the work (even temporarily).

One of our clients has grown quickly, and they’ve had to hire new team members. BUT they’re actually LOSING other GOOD team members, because they’re bringing in people who don’t have the same level of commitment and aren’t a culture fit.

The warm body principle is costing them more than taking the time and resources to do it right the first time.

HERE’S THE POINT: we need to protect the teams we’ve already built.

Whether it means renegotiating priorities or distributing the work to other team members.

Whether it means more automation, simplification or elimination. It’s important to invest the time into hiring the RIGHT person—even if the search needs to continue longer than you’d want it to.

When you start bringing in people who begin to erode your culture—it’s like my southern Mama used to tell me, “You cut your nose off to spite your face.”
