As a leader, you don’t have to fix everything…

All you need is the mindset and skillset to coach your team in finding their own answers.

You may be skeptical, but it works. Let me share why….

In a coaching session with my client recently, she said she felt like there was just a “weight on her shoulders.” That feeling was a ‘clue’ that something was going on under the surface.

Ignoring that emotion to focus on results was not the answer. That’s not sustainable. So, we set out to explore the ROOT of that ‘feeling’.

Here’s what we did:

1) Recognized that the FEELING is the FRUIT of something deeper (ROOT).

2) Explored WHERE the feeling was coming from—getting CURIOUS about the circumstances and triggers of that feeling, etc.

3) Paid attention to body language, tone of voice, etc., and talked about how those observations may be CLUES.

4) Discussed INSIGHTS found during our time of exploration and curiosity—taking the opportunity to coach not just the WHAT, but especially the WHO and the WHY (this is where deeper awareness and growth come from!)

By doing this with my client, it allowed her to work through what felt like a weight on her shoulders…so much so that she was actually able to not only uncover the SOURCE of it – but she was able to have what she called “the best and most enjoyable 4 day weekend” – and came back to work refreshed.

Maybe as a leader, you’ve experienced a moment like this with one of your team members?

…where they come to you with a certain ‘feeling’ about their work or a situation they’re in…and you feel the need to ‘fix’ it for them…

How I coached my client is how YOU can coach your team members in moments like these. You don’t have to ‘fix it’…you can empower THEM instead.

YOU can be their partner in helping examine the ROOT of what they’re dealing with, so they can find solutions.

The good news, I’ll say again: as a leader, you DON’T have to know all the answers. You don’t have to FIX everything.

All you have to do is have tools for helping your team process and find their own answers. You’re not just their boss. You’re their partner. You’re their COACH!
