Why is it important to zap your tolerations?
Because I have such a deep value for personal growth, I do something each year to grow myself as a coach, business leader, or person.
Right now, I am enrolled in a continuing education program for coaches, and a topic we’re discussing in my current class is TOLERATIONS.
A toleration is defined as something we allow in our lives that is draining our energy, holding us back, pulling us away from WHO we want to be.
It can be large. Or it can be little. But regardless, it has an impact on us and can be addressed.
We were asked to choose one or more tolerations that we want to ZAP in the near future. I chose three:
1) Managing my phone—being present during a recent vacation, not getting sucked into social media or work-related activities. (And I’m excited to report that I DID IT!)
2) Dealing with a mattress—a brand new king-size mattress had been sitting on the floor of an extra bedroom. I’d been intending to donate it to a charitable organization for a while but hadn’t made time. Every time I walked past it, it was a reminder I hadn’t dealt with. And that would steal a little bit of my mental energy at the moment. (So, I DELEGATED the task of finding a charitable organization that would benefit from it. And now the mattress is in its new home!)
3) Deciding NOT to play small in our business—as humans, it’s tempting to settle for less, to settle for easy. But I decided not to play small in the leadership coaching industry and have made a huge commitment to do something big, something that will bring value to more people. Won’t say what it is right now, but stay tuned for more details! 🙂
Identifying and zapping tolerations frees up mental space and energy to focus on the following:
- things that truly inspire us
- bring us joy
- allow us to contribute at our highest level
Consider the areas of your life or work that are robbing you of your energy, creativity, inspiration, or causing you to be less than your best.
What TOLERATION do you want or need to ZAP?
