I’m in the middle of a remodel. After day 1, I’m looking at the ‘messy’ (and wow does it feel messy!)…and it struck me how similar a remodel is to the process we go through when we develop as leaders.
Just like in a remodel, to really grow as a leader we must get behind the walls, pull up the floor, and look ‘underneath’ (we call this the ‘who’ of leadership)…to discover the core strengths we have available to build upon. There is often a hidden gift or treasure we find when we do this.
Then, we look for areas of risk, areas of weakness in the structure – those areas that will need to be reinforced in order for the structure to be strong and withstand whatever may come against it.
Both processes can be messy and uncomfortable. However, if we are fully committed to and trust the process, will result in something new, stronger, and even more beautiful.
And just like I always get so excited to see a leader grow past what they themselves even believe is possible…I’m equally excited to see how this messy remodel will turn out!
