How to Win the Loyalty of your Team and Get Better Results
Loyalty isn’t easy to come by, and it shouldn’t be. Loyalty and trust are earned, and it’s a daily process.
As a leader you probably care deeply for your team and want the best for them both personally and professionally.
But you also know that you have goals to achieve, metrics to meet by the end of the month / quarter / year. And people are looking to you for results.
So in all of this, what seems like two contradictory aspects of leadership, how do you win the loyalty of your team while also delivering on expected outcomes?
- People want to be part of something bigger than themselves.
- They will follow a person who they know will take them somewhere good, somewhere better.
- They are typically ready to roll up their sleeves and apply discretionary energy when they believe in the work AND the person leading it.
The trick is BECOMING that person. Who is that person? A Coach Approach leader.
A Coach Approach leader is someone who takes the principles, mindset, and tools of coaching into their natural style and method of leadership.
Becoming this kind of leader is a process, and it requires COURAGE and COMMITMENT to learn and apply. It’s a process I’m passionate about facilitating for leaders in all types of organizations.
Here are 4 steps to becoming a Coach Approach Leader:
- DISCOVER—understand and leverage your leadership DNA
- RELATE—elevate accountability and build higher levels of trust and influence
- COACH—develop an understanding of human behavior and the mindset/skillset of being a great coach
- ACHIEVE—accelerate your results by empowering your team
